Vesicularia montagnei 'Christmas' Moss

A moss speciality from Brazil, 1-3 cm tall, called "Christmas tree moss'', because of its side branch structure which distinguishes it from ordinary Vesicularia dubyana and looks like fir tree branches. It is more demanding than ordinary Java moss and grows more slowly. It attaches readily to roots and stones, and as it spreads in the water it needs pruning to keep its shape attractive. Attach the moss to small stones or in small bundles on tree roots to obtain a lovely effect.

Moss provides a wonderful hiding place for the young fish. Moss will float mid-tank, and can be attached to rocks, roots, and driftwood. Moss will thrive in low to medium light.

Our Moss is sold as a portion and its best to tie them to rock or driftwood if you don't want the moss to float around your aquarium.

Moss provides beautiful colour to the landscape and will help keep nitrates down. They are a firm favourite of shrimp who will often be found grazing inside a moss crop.

Moss portions are supplied in a small pot measuring 70x30mm (one supplied) approximately half a handful (approx 10-20g) which will grow indefinitely and can be trimmed and reused. Photo is for illustrative purposes only.

Moss requires a low to moderate light source.

Moss is free-floating, but can be attached to rocks or wood.
Ensure mosses are not kept in direct sunlight or excessive light, otherwise the plant may turn brown and die.
Best kept at temperatures of 22-25 degrees celsius.
Freshwater only. Not for use in salt or brackish water.

Moss does not require regular cleaning, but if you have a floating bush which is picking up waste and debris, follow this guide.
The best way to keep large clumps of moss clean is to remove from the tank and gently squeeze into a bucket.

Squeezing it pushes the murky water out. Be sure to check for fish fry and shrimp before handling your moss.
